Park/Ratheniska Ladies Football

The first Park/Ratheniska ladies football club match was played by an under 12 team in Ratheniska in May 1995, soon after the formation of the Club.

The very first club officers elected at the initial meeting on the first of April 1995 were-

Mary Walsh- Chairperson.

Betty Power- Secretary.

Margaret Mulhare- Treasurer.

Geraldine Browne- Vice-Chairperson.

Margaret Greene- Assistant chairperson.

Thirteen years later, although some of the committee members are the same, new faces have appeared on the committee.

Mary Walsh- Chairperson.

Mary Fogarty- Treasurer.

Margaret Greene- Secretary.

Jim Fogarty- Vice-chairperson.

Caitriona Fogarty- PRO

The Club colours were, and still are, yellow and green, the same as the GAA Club’s colours. In that year the Club also had teams entered at under 14 and at under 16 level in the championship. At present the club also has a minor, junior and intermediate team.

In 2000 under the guidance of Eoin Shiels, Sheila Cushen and Jim Fogarty the junior team got to the County Final but were beaten. In 2002 there came back again to the final and this time were winners of the County Junior Championship. In 2003, following promotion they were beaten in the final of the Intermediate Championship.

This set back wasn't enough to deter the ladies however, and in 2007 with Pat O Sullivan, Liam Dollard and Dave Mulhare on board  they were back again in the County final, this time facing up against Ballylinan. The girls wore the blue and white of Laois due to a colour clash and played like the champions they are, pulling away in the end to win on a scoreline of Park Ratheniska 3-7 Ballylinan 1-8.

Senior football awaits the ladies in 2008
