Ratheniska against Eirgrid
The Save Ratheniska Group have launched their “Tie a Yellow Ribbon to Save Ratheniska” campaign. Ratheniska is currently in the process of showing our objections to the proposed SuperSubStation planned for Ratheniska by Eirgrid. This campaign was officially launched on Friday 15th June 2010 at the Heritage Hotel in Portlaoise. A large gathering of residents showed up to lend their voice to this campaign Also in attendance were a large number of politicians from both the local and national scene as well as generations of Ratheniska residents who vehemently object to the destruction of their rural paradise.
The launch of the “Tie a Yellow Ribbon” Campaign was covered both locally and nationally by the print and news media with a detailed article published in Saturdays Irish Times showcasing the community's objections to the Eirgrid plans.
This was just Stage 1 of the Groups campaign. As part of the “Tie A Yellow Ribbon Campaign” the Save Ratheniska Group are asking everyone in the area who object to Eirgrids plans to tie a yellow ribbon to their trees, gates, cars, tractors, wrists, bikes, anything all actually! We would ask everyone in the area to get behind this as much as they can and we would also ask you to encourage yo to get friends and family to do likewise. Spread the word!
The Group have a large number of flyers, display posters, ribbons for distribution and ask that anyone looking to get hold of some, or even for more information contact them on Facebook at “SAVE RATHENISKA” or email directly to saveratheniska@gmail.com.
